“Black in Boca” — The Opener

The first song I contemplated was Black in Boca. My vision has always been that the show opens with this fun, dynamic song. The song immediately immerses you into the world of the Miller family and sets the tone for Act I.

Quick disclaimer: This is an early version of the song. It hasn’t been refined, workshopped, or polished yet. You’re hearing it exactly where it is right now—messy edges and all. I’m sharing intentionally as part of the creative process.

The melody came to me in the place where I do my most creative thinking: on the elliptical at my gym.  I hopped off, went home, and plunked out a rough version on my kids’ electric piano—just enough to capture the hook that was stuck in my head. I fed those notes into Suno, generated many iterations, tweaked a bunch of prompts, edited lyrics and slowly watched it take shape.

And then it happened.  That moment where the song clicks. Where you hear something and think. “That's it!.”  This song is what convinced me that maybe—just maybe—I could build an actual, Broadway-level musical with help from AI.

I love this song. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Let me know what you think.
